Sony Vegas 7.0 under Windows 10

Sony’s Vegas 7.0 video editor installs fine, and even loads up .NET 1.1 even tho .NET 1.1 it isn’t officially supported in Windows 10, however clicking on various filters caused my browser to open a web page on one of Microsoft’s websites which had downloads for “winhlp32.exe” for various post Windows XP versions of windows.  All except for Windows 10.  🙁

Searching the net, I discovered that many programs relied on this winhlp32.exe which was no longer part of any version of Windows after Windows XP.  Thankfully, someone out there had come up with a solution, which I shall share here.  The following was posted by Alan Copp replied on August 9, 2015 @ answers.microsoft.com

Here is a solution (thanks to Komeil Bahmanpour):

Go to his site:
  • Download winhlp32-windows-7-x86-x64-komeil.cab:

http://www.komeil.com/download/1230

  • Unpack the download (Install.cmd, winhlp32.exe, winhlp32.exe.mui) to a new directory. Edit the install.cmd and add the following two lines to the [end of the] ‘settings‘ section:

set WindowsVersion=7
goto :BypassVersionError

(yes, ‘WindowsVersion=7’ is correct.)

  • Save the file and execute as administrator.

All should go without error. Delphi help, and every other help file I’ve tried, now works exactly as it should!

It certainly worked for me!  So there you go.  Thanks for nothing Microsoft…
